Mirzya,
starring
debutants
Harshvardhan
Kapoor
and
Saiyami
Kher,
is
a
romantic
thriller
directed
and
produced
by
Rakeysh
Omprakash
Mehra.
The
film
will
take
you
on
a
ride
between
'two
different
times',
both
modern
and
past!
All
eyes
are
on
the
debutants
Harshvardhan
and
Saiyami;
Mirzya
can
build
their
career
in
Bollywood.
The
newcomers
are
lucky
to
be
working
with
director
Rakeysh
Omprakash
Mehra
who
has
delivered
hits
such
as
Rang
De
Basanti
and
Bhaag
Milkha
Bhaag.
They
are
in
safe
hands
and
expectations
are
big
on
Mirzya.
Let's
see
what
the
movie
has
to
offer.
Director:
Rakeysh
Omprakash
Mehra
Cast:
Harshvardhan
Kapoor,
Saiyami
Kher,
Om
Puri
Plot:
Mirzya
is
set
in
the
Punbaj
province
and
is
heavily
influenced
by
Punjabi
folklore.
Harshvardhan
Kapoor
and
Saiyami
Kher
are
childhood
friends,
they
also
attend
the
same
school.
Harshvardhan
is
a
boy
from
a
poor
family
and
Saiyami
is
the
daughter
of
a
rich
man.
The
innocent
young
boy
suddenly
vanishes
one
fine
day
and
Saiyami
has
no
clue
about
his
wherabouts.
She
grows
up
and
falls
in
love
with
another
man
and
the
duo
decides
to
get
married
and
have
a
good
life.
Harshvardhan
enters
Saiyami's
life
after
a
long
period
and
he
is
still
in
love
with
her
and
does
everything
to
win
her
love.
Since
Harshvardhan
is
from
a
poor
background
her
father
refuses
the
marriage
and
goes
against
his
love.
The
movie
suddenly
takes
a
U-turn
and
goes
back
to
a
different
time
in
history
and
shows
Harshvardhan
as
a
warrior
who
fights
against
a
group
of
rulers,
and
Saiyami
belongs
to
the
ruler's
tribe.
The
warrior
falls
in
love
with
Saiyami
but
the
war,
caste
system
and
class
divide
hinders
the
duo
to
be
together
for
the
rest
of
their
lives,
leaving
the
love
to
die
a
tragic
death.
The
movie
shifts
its
focus
back
to
the
present
and
shows
that
despite
several
years
of
progress
and
growth,
the
seeds
of
division
is
sown
so
deeply
into
everyone's
lives
that
the
caste
system
and
class
division
between
the
rich
and
poor
still
prevails,
leaving
no
room
for
true
love
to
bloom.
Will
Harshvardhan
overcome
the
societal
divisions
and
win
over
Saiyami's
father?
Can
true
love
break
all
barriers
and
keep
the
couple
together?
Or
will
they
fall
prey
to
the
evil
society
and
end
their
love
just
like
the
past?
For
that
you
will
have
to
hit
the
theatres!
Performances:
Harshvardhan
Kapoor
comes
from
a
filmy
background
and
his
acting
skills
are
average
and
he
remains
calm
and
poised
in
whatever
scenes
given
to
him.
However,
the
lack
of
transparency
fails
him
as
an
actor
and
that
will
make
you
wonder
what
exactly
is
his
role
in
the
movie.
One
scene
you
see
him
as
Mirzya,
another
scene
as
Adil
and
another
scene
there's
a
little
boy.
It
doesn't
cut
the
cake
and
his
acting
skills
are
diluted
between
all
these
three
stories!
Saiyami
Kher
stole
the
show
in
portraying
her
role
as
a
modern
woman.
She
has
carried
the
look,
attitude
and
style
with
ease.
But
the
same
indifference
in
the
transition
process
has
casted
a
bad
shadow
on
her
acting
skills
as
she's
seen
playing
different
roles
in
different
scenes
and
might
make
you
say
'Please
stop,
your
role
is
going
above
our
head'!
Technicalities:
The
director
Rakeysh
Omprakash
Mehra
wanted
to
show
how
love
takes
a
beating
with
arrogance,
money,
power
and
status
in
the
society,
but
he's
over
done
his
job
and
will
leave
you
confused.
Also,
the
transition
between
the
modern
time
and
historic
time
will
leave
you
amused
and
it's
too
complex
for
any
layman
to
understand
the
sequences
as
there
is
no
explanation
for
the
transitions.
When
it
comes
to
the
camera
angles,
the
film
manages
to
focus
on
every
inch
of
the
historic
lifestyle;
but
it's
a
let
down
as
there
is
no
dialogue
delivery
and
everything
is
just
shown
in
motion.
The
cinematography
is
good
no
doubt,
but
no
light
has
been
shed
on
the
Mirzya/Sahiban
tragedy
and
the
film
keeps
shifting
unnecessarily
between
three
different
times
'Childhood','Present'
and
'Past'
and
none
of
these
connect
well
and
all
the
threads
are
left
open.
Verdict:
There
movie
has
no
comedy
and
romance
and
is
filled
with
too
many
complex
and
tragedy
stories
that
make
you
feel
uncomfotable
and
leave
you
confused.
Its
only
a
one
time
watch
if
you
like
to
give
your
brain
too
much
pressure!
