Oru Kuprasidha Payyan Review: This One Is Indeed A Cut Above The Rest!

Oru Kuprasidha Payyan is the third directorial venture of Madhupal and both the previous ventures of the film-maker were movies that have bagged the tag of classic. With Oru Kuprasidha Payyan, the heavily talented film-maker is back in action and expectations are indeed high. Has Oru Kuprasidha Payyan hit the right chords? The story of Oru Kuprasidha Payyan revolves around a youngster named Ajayan, who is a loner and working in a restaurant of a village. Things turn upside down for him when he becomes the prime suspect in the murders of lady named Chembakammal, who is like a motherly figure to him. Who is the real culprit? Oru Kuprasidha Payyan takes the audiences through the same.

Oru Kuprasidha Payyan has an intelligent film-maker's signature stamped all over it. Madhupal has dealt with the subject of a murder mystery with utmost perfection and in a way, that is quite different from the films of the same genre from the past. The film's narrative is interesting with it moving from the present to the past and vice-versa. Due credits must be given to the film-maker for chosing the right actors for the right roles, which in turn has created a very good impact. The film-maker has given due space for emotions as well, which gives this movie a different angle.

The script of the film penned by Jeevan Job Thomas is neatly layered. Each character in the film has his /her own prominence. The film-maker takes out his own time to establish the things, especially in the first half, where we get to know more about each character and the developments of the case. For the fans of courtroom dramas, the second half is indeed a big treat and the maturity with which Madhupal has dealt with the courtroom sequences desrves a big round of applause. However, certain preditability factors do linger in some of the portions. The commercial aspect in the form of the action sequence looked forced. Nevertheless, these are just minor shortcomings and they don't take anything away from the whole impact the movie creates.

Tovino Thomas should be appreciated for taking roles with differences. Here, he essays the role of Ajayan, who has some peculiar mannerisms and he has come up with a very effectiv performance. Nimisha Sajaya steals the show with her performance as an advocate named Hannah. Anu Sithara has done justice to her character but her character had less screen time. It was refreshing to see Nedumudi venu in the role of an advocate and he does the role to perfection. Saranya Ponvannan played her part really well. Oru Kuprasidha Payyan also features Balu Varghese, Siddique, Sudheer Karamana and others in important roles.

The cinematography by Noushad Sheriff was good and suited the requirements of the film. Songs by Ouseppachan were decent and the BGM works were indeed more impressive. Editing was fine.

Oru Kuprasidha Payyan stands tall among all the films that have come out in this particular genre in the recent times. The performances, the script and above all, the making style of Madhupal make the film an intriguing watch.
