Not
Many
movies
have
managed
to
set
the
expectattions
meter
at
a
high
level
just
with
its
posters
and
the
song
like
Kolamaavu
Kokila
did.
The
film,
starring
Nayanthara
in
the
lead
role
has
looked
like
a
promising
affair
at
the
word
go
and
thus
leaving
a
good
impression
in
the
minds
of
the
audiences
regarding
the
prospectus
of
the
film.
Has
Kolamaavu
Kokila
lived
up
to
the
expectations?

Kokila
review

the
answer.
Kolamaavu
Kokila
narrates
the
story
of
a
girl
named
Kokila,
who
hails
from
a
middle
class
family.
She
leads
a
peaceful
life
with
her
family
but
things
turn
turtle
when
she
gets
to
know
that
her
mother
is
suffering
from
Cancer.
This
forces
Kokila
to
take
up
a
risky
job
of
drug
peddling.
What
happens
rest
has
been
narrated
in
Kolamaavu
Kokila.
The
film's
storyline
is
indeed
an
interesting
one
and
the
events
that
lead
the
characters
to
it
are
equally
interesting.
Director
Nelson
who
himself
has
scripted
the
movie
has
given
due
consideration
in
establishing
the
characters
in
a
proper
way.
Morever,
the
way
in
which
Kolamaavu
Kokila
deals
with
its
female
characters
is
in
fact
an
eye-opener
to
commercial
Tamil
cinema.
The
dark
comedy
elements
in
the
script
works
out
extremely
well.
Meanwhile,
the
script
is
strong
but
there
comes
a
point
in
the
second
half
of
the
film
where
it
was
finding
it
tough
to
go
beyond
a
portion.
However,
Nelson's
maling
style
overcomes
such
minue
hurdles.
Nelson's
film-making
style
deserves
appreciation
as
this
keeps
the
audiences
glued
to
the
narrative.
Yes,
it
is
a
bit
slow
in
the
initial
phases
but
that
helps
in
establishing
the
right
platform.
There
is
one
sequence
in
the
film
that
rightly
shows
his
ability
to
switch
between
the
genres.
Nayanthara
is
fabulous
in
the
role
of
Kokila.
She
has
played
her
role
according
to
requirements
of
the
character.
At
times,
she
underplays
her
role
and
even
then
she
makes
a
big
impact
with
her
minute
reactions
and
expressions.
The
film
rides
on
her
shoulder
and
she
takes
the
movie
forward
with
ease.
Yogi
Babu
is
thoroughly
entertaining
in
his
role
and
does
leave
ypu
in
splits
with
his
witty
oneliners.
Saranya
Ponvannan
makes
a
good
impact
in
the
role
of
Kokila's
mother.
Special
mention
to
Jacqueline
and
T
rajendran,
who
leave
a
good
impression
in
the
minds
of
the
audiences.
Nothing
much
has
to
be
said
about
the
music
of
Anirudh
Ravichander
as
the
magic
he
weaved
with
the
songs
of
the
movie
is
well-known.
He
does
an
equally
fantatsic
job
with
the
BGM
of
the
film
as
well.
Cinetamtography
by
Sivakumar
Vijayan
deserves
a
special
mention.
Editing
is
also
neat
and
maintains
the
flow
of
the
movie.
Kolamavu
Kokila
is
high
on
entertainment
quotient
with
comedies
that
work
out
big
time
coupled
with
the
thrilling
moments
that
it
has
to
offer.
Definitely,
a
finely
crafted
film.
