The
film
industry
woke
up
to
a
big,
big
surprise
on
Friday.
RGV's
Phoonk
started
with
a
bang,
taking
one
of
the
biggest
starts
in
the
recent
times.
The
opening
was
in
the
85%
-
90%
range
across
the
nation,
multiplexes
and
single
screens
included
[at
places,
even
100%].
The
distributors/exhibitors
of
various
circuits
this
writer
spoke
to
sounded
elated.
Given
the
fact
that
RGV
has
had
a
string
of
flops,
no
one
expected
Phoonk
to
open
exceedingly
well.
Maan
Gaye
Mughall-E-Azam
had
a
dull
start
of
15%
-
20%
and
the
reports
are
not
encouraging.
Mumbai
Meri
Jaan
too
started
in
the
same
range,
but
the
silver
lining
is
that
the
reports
are
unanimously
good
and
the
strong
word
of
mouth
should
benefit
the
film.
With
Singh
Is
Kinng,
Bachna
Ae
Haseeno
and
God
Tussi
Great
Ho
continuing
at
a
majority
of
screens,
the
four
new
releases
of
the
week
–
Mumbai
Meri
Jaan,
Maan
Gaye
Mughall-E-Azam,
Phoonk
and
My
Friend
Ganesha
2
-
were
released
at
limited
screens.
With
four
more
releases
next
Friday,
imagine
the
number
of
shows
each
film
would
be
playing
at.
