Ranbir’s Barfi fails to beat Rockstar collection at Box Office

Ranbir Kapoor and Priyanka starrer movie Barfi has started with a bang at the Box Office in India on its opening day. The romantic comedy film has fetched a big numbers at the business centres across the country. But the Anurag Basu directed flick has failed to beat the first day collection record of Ranbir's previous release Rockstar.

Rockstar was released in 2,500 cinema halls on 11th November, 2011. It had registered 80% to 100% occupancy at multiplexes and 40% and 50% occupancy at single screens across the country on its opening day. The musical romantic film had earned Rs 11 crores in the domestic collection centres on the first day of its release.

Whereas, Ranbir's latest outing Barfi was released on 1,300 screens in multiplexes and in 300 single screens across India. The movie registered an average of 85% to 90% occupancy at multiplexes and about 70% occupancy in single screens across the country on the first day. It has raked in approximately Rs 9.50 crores nett at the desi Box Office on its opening day. The movie has fallen short of Rs 1.5 crore to surpass the record of Rockstar.

However, Barfi is more-hyped than Rockstar and its story about deaf and dumb has created a lot of curiosity among the movie buffs. Rockstar had mixed reviews, whereas Barfi has bagged rave reviews from film critics. But it was released in less number of screens when compared to Rockstar. Now, Barfi is expected to see a big jump in its business on Saturday and Sunday as positive word of mouth is going viral on nett.
