Jab Tak Hai Jaan 1st weekend (6 days) collection at Box Office

Late filmmaker Yash Chopra's last directorial venture Jab Tak Hai Jaan (JTHJ) has concluded the first weekend at the Box Office in India with a wonderful collection. The Shahrukh Khan, Katrina Kaif and Anushka Sharma starrer has topped the business chart in the domestic chart beating another new release Son Of Sardar. But it has failed to beat the desi collection record of Salman Khan's blockbuster movie Ek Tha Tiger, which had surpassed Rs 100 crore mark in its opening weekend.

Jab Tak Hai Jaan, which was released on 2,500+ screens on November 13, opened to an earth-shattering response at the domestic Box Office with its occupancy ranging between 90% to 100%. This romantic thriller had very good footfalls in multiplexes across the country when compared to its response in single screens. It collected Rs 15.23 crores at the collection centres in the country. With this, it failed to smash the first day record of Ra.One (Rs 18 crores) and Ek Tha Tiger (Rs 32.92 crores).

The business of Jab Tak Hai Jaan showed a big jump on Wednesday and that was due to Diwali holiday. The movie witnessed big dip in collection on Thursday and Friday as they were busy days for colleges and offices. It was expected to see big leap in its business on Saturday and Sunday. But the death of Bal Thackeray took a toll on its collection in Maharashtra, which is main market for Bollywood.

Jab Tak Hai Jaan has raked in a highest ever collection for a Diwali release and it is also the biggest opener for SRK. The Shahrukh-Katrina-Anushka has collected a total of Rs 80.73 crores nett at the Box Office in the country in the six day extended weekend. Its breakup is Rs 15.23 cr on Tue, Rs 19.54 cr on Wed, Rs 14.45 cr on Thu, Rs 11.17 cr on Fri, Rs 10.38 cr on Sat and Rs 9.96 cr on Sun.

However, Jab Tak Hai Jaan is one of the most-hyped movies of 2012. It has several big strengths like late Yash Chopra's comeback to direction and superstars like Shahrukh Khan, Katrina Kaif and Anushka Sharma playing the lead. Hence, it was expected to break the first weekend record of Ek Tha Tiger. But it has fallen back to surpass this record with a big margin. It should be seen how it will perform on the weekdays.
