Karan's Student of the Year first week collection at Box Office

Karan Johar's movie Student of the Year starring newcomers like Siddharth Malhotra, Alia Bhatt and Varun Dhawan in leads, has concluded the first week with an excellent collection at the Box Office in India. The much-hyped film has collected approximately Rs 51 crores nett at the domestic collection centres in seven days. It has become the latest movie to enter the league of fastest 50 crore grosser of 2012.

Student of the Year, which hit over 1,400 screens across the country on 19 October, received 100% occupancy in both single screens and multiplexes on Friday. A positive word of mouth took its collection upwards on the following days. It collected approximately Rs 31 crores at the domestic Box Office in the first weekend. Its breakup is Rs 9.25 cr on Fri, Rs 10.25 cr on Sat and Rs 11.5 cr on Sun.

The business of the film Student of the Year went down by 50% on the weekdays, but its collection looked very decent when compared to many biggies of 2012. Thanks to Dussehra holidays. The movie added approximately Rs 21 crores to its first week total Rs 52 crores at the Box Office. Its breakup is Rs 4.5 cr on Mon, Rs 5.5 cr on Tue, Rs 6 cr on Wed and Rs 5 cr on Thu.

However, Karan Johar has already scored two big hits with Agneepath and Ek Main Aur Ekk Tu. The filmmaker has had a hat-trick success with Student of the Year. Trade experts expected this film to cross Rs 60 crore mark at the domestic Box Office in the first week, but its business was affected by Prakash Jha's latest directorial venture Chakravyuha, which hit the screens on Wednesday, October 24.
