Karan
Johar's
latest
Hindi
movie
Student
of
the
Year
has
done
an
excellent
collection
at
the
Box
Office
in
India.
The
much-hyped
film
starring
newcomers
like
Siddharth
Malhotra,
Alia
Bhatt
and
Varun
Dhawan
in
leads,
has
collected
Rs
31
crores
nett
at
the
domestic
collection
centres
in
the
first
weekend.
With
this,
Dharma
Productions
has
scored
a
hat-trick
success
in
the
year
2012.
Student
of
the
Year,
which
released
in
over
1,400
screens
across
the
country
19
October,
opened
to
an
overwhelming
response
with
its
100%
occupancy
in
both
single
screens
and
multiplexes
on
the
first
day
of
its
release.
Its
first
day
collection
was
bigger
than
that
of
many
big-budget
movies
of
the
year.
A
positive
word
of
mouth
played
a
magic
and
took
its
collection
upwards
at
the
ticket
windows.
Student
of
the
Year
witnessed
big
jump
in
its
business
at
the
desi
Box
Office
on
Saturday
and
Sunday.
The
breakup
of
its
first
weekend
total
is
Rs
9.25
cr
on
Fri,
Rs
10.25
cr
on
Sat
and
Rs
11.5
cr
on
Sun.
With
Student
of
the
Year
featuring
all
newcomers
in
the
leads,
many
wonder
with
its
wonderful
performance
at
the
Box
Office.
But
Karan
Johar
has
had
massive
promotions
for
the
movie,
which
garnered
positive
reviews
from
film
critics.
The
curiosity
created
by
its
promos
was
coupled
with
the
October
holidays,
which
resulted
in
huge
amount
of
advance
ticket
booking.
However,
trade
experts
feel
that
Student
of
the
Year
will
continue
to
rock
at
the
Box
Office
on
the
weekdays
as
all
offices
and
companies
will
remain
closed
on
Tuesday
and
Wednesday
due
the
Dussehra
holidays.
The
movie
is
expected
to
cross
Rs
60
crore
mark
at
the
domestic
Box
Office
in
the
first
week.
After
Agneepath,
it
is
expected
to
be
Karan
Johar's
second
100
crore
film
in
2012.
