Director Christopher Nolan's latest Hollywood
movie The Dark Knight Rises
(TDKR), which hit the screens in India on July 20, has
opened to a wonderful response at the Box Office in the country. It
has raked in Rs 18.70 crores nett at the collection centres in the
first weekend. But the action thriller has failed to beat the
record of The Amazing Spider Man
(TASM) in the country.
The Dark Knight Rises, which was one of the
most-awaited Hollywood movies of 2012 in India, got an overwhelming
response at the Indian Box Office, thereby
sidelining the new Indian releases like Gattu, Mere Dost
Picture Abhi Baki Hai (MDPABH) and Challo
Driver. It also affected the business of big openers like
Cocktail and Bol Bachchan.
According to Indian trade experts, the Christian Bale and Anne
Hathaway starrer English movie registered 90% to 100% occupancy at
the multiplexes in the major cities across the country. The
Dark Knight Rises raked in Rs 5.10 crores nett at the Box
Office on the first day. Its business grew up by 20% on the
following days. It collected Rs 6.20 crores nett on Saturday and Rs
7.50 crores nett on Sunday.
The Dark Knight Rises is the last movie of the The
Dark Knight series, which is one of the most-popular series in
the country. Before its release, Indian trade analyst had felt that
it would break the first weekend collection record of The
Amazing Spider Man. But with its collection reaching Rs 18.70
crores, the movie has failed to surpass Spider Man, which
had raked in Rs 29.10 crores nett.
The Amazing Spider Man had also received an
earth-shattering response at the Box Office in the country. It had
raked in Rs 8.50 crores nett on the first day of its release in the
country. Its collection had improved on the following days, with
the film grossing Rs 9.60 crores nett on Saturday and Rs 11 crores
nett on Sunday. The Dark Knight Rises has left far behind
The Amazing Spider Man.
