Box Office: Matru Ki Bijlee Ka Mandola (MKBKM) has dull start

Much-awaited Hindi movie Matru Ki Bijlee Ka Mandola starring Imran Khan and Anushka Sharma in leads, has opened to a dull response at the Indian Box Office. Trade experts say that the business of the film is being affected by Punjabi film Saadi Love Story in North and Tamil flick Alex Pandian and Telugu movies Naayak and Seethamma Vakitlo Sirimalle Chettu in South India.

Matru Ki Bijlee Ka Mandola is a much-talked about romantic comedy, which has been directed and produced Vishal Bhardwaj, who always enjoys a good following amongst the gentry audience. Hence, the Imran Khan and Anushka Sharma starrer was expected to start with a bang at the Box Office on the first day of its release.

But Matru Ki Bijlee Ka Mandola has received a lackluster opening across the country due to release of big-budget regional movies featuring superstars. The movie has got an average response at the single screens across the country, while it registered slightly better occupancy at multiplexes. But its overall occupancy is way below the expected mark. The word of mouth is likely to take its business upwards.

However, Matru Ki Bijlee Ka Mandola is a big-budget movie and its producers have had massive promotions prior its release. Besides this, Imran Khan and Anushka Sharma have appeared on several TV channels and visited various metros across the country to promote it. But the movie has garnered mix reviews from film critics. It should be seen whether its business will go upwards in later shows.
