Mumbai: The much-hyped Hindi movie 3G, which released along with Jolly LLB and Mere Dad Ki Maruti on March 15, has not received the expected amount of response at Indian Box Office in the first week. The Neil Nitin Mukesh and Sonal Chauhan starrer has landed in the third spot, while other new releases graced first and second places respectively.
Horror film 3G was expected to do better business than Jolly LLB and Mere Dad Ki Maruti. But the movie opened to a very poor response and its occupancy was lower than the others in the morning and matinee shows on the first day. While the latter movies showed growth in the evening shows, the occupancy of the Neil-Sonal starrer was same as was in the previous shows.
Bollywood trade experts had predicted that 3G would witness substantial growth in its business over the weekend, but it didn't. The movie had a big dip in its collection on weekdays. It has collected Rs 4.85 crores nett at the domestic Box Office in five days. Its breakup is Rs 1.10 cr on Fri, Rs 1.12 cr on Sat, Rs 1.41 cr on Sun, Rs 64 lakhs on Mon and Rs 58 lakhs on Tues. Its first week collection will not cross Rs 6 crores, says a trade analyst.
However, the makers of 3G had massive promotions prior its release. The movie has an interesting concept and tuneful music, but its botched up screenplay played spoilsports. It garnered negative reviews from film critics, which led to bad word of mouth.
