This week's new release Phata Poster Nikla Hero (PPNG) has made a decent collection at the Indian Box Office in the first weekend. The Shahid Kapoor and Ileana D'Cruz starrer has topped the domestic business chart, beating another new release The Lunchbox. It has also beaten the record of Shahid's last release Teri Meri Kahaani, but it has failed to smash the record of his biggest opener Mausam.
Phata Poster Nikla Hero opened to an average response with its occupancy ranging between 45% and 50% and witnessed decent growth on Saturday and Sunday. The movie has performed better at the single screens when compared to multiplexes. The Shahid Kapoor and Ileana D'Cruz starrer has collected Rs 21.25 crores nett at the Indian Box Office in the first weekend. Its breakup is Rs 6 cr on Fri, Rs 7 cr on Sat and Rs 8.25 cr on Sun.
Shahid Kapoor's last release Teri Meri Kahaani had raked in Rs 16.75 crores nett at the domestic Box Office in its opening weekend. Whereas Mausam, which is the biggest opener in his career, had minted Rs 23.5 crore nett at the Indian Box Office in the first weekend. Considering the hype surrounding it, trade experts had predicted that Phata Poster Nikla Hero would be the biggest opener for Shahid, but it has has fallen short of it.
