Mumbai: The much-hyped Hindi movie Yamla Pagla Deewana 2 (YPD 2) has done average collection at the Indian Box Office in the first weekend. It was partially affected by last week's release Yeh Jawaani Hai Deewani, which has raked in Rs 28.75 crores in the second weekend. While the latter once again topped the domestic business chart, the Dharmendra, Sunny Deol and Bobby Deol starrer has landed in the second place. It has failed to break the opening weekend record of its prequel Yamla Pagla Deewana.
The huge success of Yamla Pagla Deewana had big hype and expectations about the sequel - Yamla Pagla Deewana 2, which has expected to start with a bang at the Box Office. As expected, it did get good opening in North Indian circuits like Delhi, UP and Punjab, which are considered to be the areas where the Deols have a stronghold. But it had a dismal opening in Mumbai, Bangalore, Kolkatta and other South Indian circuits, where Yeh Jawaani Hai Deewani did rocking business beating it.
Instead of showing growth, Yamla Pagla Deewana 2 witnessed downward trends on Saturday. The movie had a leap on Sunday, but was not sufficient enough to set any new record. Released in 1,800 screens in the country, the film has collected Rs 22.50 crores nett at the Indian Box Office in its first weekend. Its breakup is Rs 7.50 cr on Fri, Rs 6.50 cr on Sat and Rs 8.50 cr on Sun.
Yamla Pagla Deewana had collected Rs 24 crores nett at the domestic Box Office in its opening weekend. Its sequel Yamla Pagla Deewana 2 was expected to smash this record and become the biggest opener in the career of Sunny and Bobby Deol. But has failed to do so. It should be seen how it will perform on the weekdays.
