The actress's designer saree got her into Christian La Croix and Christian Dior's private parties

When Bipasha Basu walked the red carpet for Goal, little did she know that her saree (designed by Delhi-based designer Gaurav Gupta) would get her invited to the private parties of Christian La Croix and Chistian Dior.

Busy Bips

Says the actress, "Before I left for Cannes, I was very busy and didn't have much time to pick out something so I left it to my stylist Anahita Shroff.

All I wanted was a saree to wear because I know that if you wear one at Cannes, heads will turn like crazy.

Anahita put together some stuff, among which was a saree from Gaurav, which I wore at Cannes. I had seen his work earlier and liked it."

Stunning reactions

But what stunned Bips was the reaction by the foreign designers to her cleavage-revealing saree. "Showing cleavage was not deliberate. It was the way the saree was designed and draped.

The Christian La Croix and Chistian Dior teams were so impressed by the way I was dressed that they went crazy about the saree. They were like, 'Wow! Indian girls are so gorgeous.'

I went gaga over the compliments. I was so excited that I called my friend Suzie and told her their reactions. And guess what? They even invited me to their private dinner parties.

Christian La Croix even insisted I wear a saree to the party held at Palm Beach. I couldn't attend it as I was very tired."

Gorge on, Bips

But she did attend dinner parties hosted by the producer of Goal, Ronnie Screwvala. Bipasha says, "I went overboard and binged on food while shooting for Goal in London and Race in Dubai, so now I have become very particular about what I've been eating over the last 20 days.

I have been careful that I eat the right kind of food, but Ronnie takes us to the best of places. I have eaten the most amazing pizza with loads of cheese at a pizzeria near the Hotel Majestic. Ronnie has taken the entire Goal team for dinner at a quaint restaurant in a village outside Cannes. T

he French have the most amazing cafÉs," Bipasha sighs, adding, "I got to have my favourite dessert, Crème BrûlÉe. It was lavender-flavoured Crème BrûlÉe. I am a foodie and have a sweet tooth."

Bipasha is thrilled that boyfriend John Abraham has signed a big Hollywood film opposite Rachel Weisz (The Mummy). "John has signed such a big international film. I am very proud of that.

People in India feel that going to Cannes is a pointless exercise but it's very important where and how you want to be seen. Unless we make an effort, how will the world know about us or our films?

People do want to know about India and today we are making different films which people internationally need to know about."
