The third adventure film in the Harry Potter film series Harry Potter And The Prisoner Of Azakaban may be the most anticipated film in the so far released ones. Released on May 31, 2004, this film brought out a worldwide revenue of $789,804,554.

The cast and crew of the film found minor changes like Alfonso Cuaron as the director and Michael Gambon as Albus Dumbledore. The film also introduced major actors Adrian Rawlins, Geraldine Somerville, Gary Oldman, David Thewlis and Timothy Spall for the crucial roles of James Potter, Lily Potter, Sirius Black, Remus Lupin and Peter Pettigrew respectively.

The film starts at the Dursley's house as usual. Harry Potter(Daniel Radcliffe) storms away from the home after a furious outburst at Margaret Dursleys. However his travel to Hogwarts with his friends becomes eventful with the escape of a mass murderer Sirius Black and his first meeting with the dementors.

The life at Hogwarts in the third year becomes more adventurous since dementors keep the guard at the school. The escaped prisoner Sirius Black tries to enter the school at many times through futile attempts. Harry overhears that Sirius Black was his parents' best friend, later their murderer and his own godfather.

Events turn upside down at a crucial point. Harry found out with a magical map of Hogwarts, presented by Fred and George Weasley the Peter Pettigrew, whom Sirius Black was alleged to kill, is still alive. With the help of Professor Lupin, Harry, Hermione and Ron solve the mystery of Sirius Black when they learn that he was wrongly convicted of murder. Harry also saves himself and Sirius from the Dementors by using the Patronus Charm, and Sirius, who is still unable to prove his innocence, escapes.

This is the first film in the Harry Potter series without the direct presence of Lord Voldemort in it. This film is concentrating on the emotional aspects of Harry Potter. This film brings forth the child like feelings of Harry Potter in the presence of his father's best friends, Remus Lupin and Sirius Black.

Harry Potter And The Prisoner Of Azakaban derived both positive and negative reviews from the spectators. The film broke several opening records and raked 7.7 in the internet database. However the ardent fans of the Harry Potter series felt that many of the scenes were unconnected and the director has added his own stylistics to the film. Many fans were disappointed that plot points, such as the Marauder's backstory, the details of Peter Pettigrew's betrayal, and the origin of Harry's Patronus were shortened. The scene where Dumbledore humming Mexican national anthem also attracted a major controversy.

The film got a PG rating and many viewers complained that some fantasy scenes may frighten young children. However the film presented something to cherish for the Harry Potter fans till the arrival of its successor and long beyond that.
