Bipasha celebrates Independence Day with a difference

Bollywood actress bipasha basu decided to celebrate this Independence Day with a difference. She poured out her feelings on her blog www.bipashabasunet.com/blog/. Here is the excerpt from her write up -

15th Aug, 2010, we Indians will celebrate our 63rd Independence Day. It makes me proud to be a citizen of Independent India where all, including women have equal and ample opportunities to chase & achieve our dreams.

Had it not been for the independence we enjoy, I don"t think that we would have been able to speak what"s on our mind. Thanks to this freedom of Expression, we in the industry have been able to make many genres of films and also openly bring forth what"s happening around us. Women in the film industry have been able to portray characters that stand up for themselves & for their rights. For such, we actors are respected and elevated to celebrity status.

All around me, I see people enjoy the freedom to live life unafraid. I see the empowerment endowed on women, when I see women working at par with the men and achieving great heights, be it in the world of glamour, IT, finance, governance, law and order or any other area of work. We have come a long way.

This Independence Day, let us all take an oath to voice our veto towards corruption and illegal activities. Let us join hands in making a difference and pledge ourselves to the cause of giving ourselves good governance and a better tomorrow using our power to vote against all evils plaguing our society.
