The world bowed before Aishwarya Rai Bachchan when she won the Miss World title in 1994. However, she came to limelight with her first Pepsi commercial, where she played Sanjana. Aishwarya Rai Bachchan made her acting debut in Mani Ratnam's Tamil biopic film Iruvar in the year 1997. The film was a critical success and won many awards. Aishwarya's films like Hum Dil De Chuke Sanam (1999), Taal (1999), Devdas (2002), Dhoom 2 (2006) and Jodha Akbar (2008) were tight slap on the critics' face who said 'models can't act'. Not only these films gave her critical acclaim and Box Office success, it also fetched her many awards for her brilliant performance.
Devdas was the high point of Aishwarya's movie career. The film received a special screening at the 2002 Cannes Film Festival, and was selected by Time Magazine's in its list of 10 best films of the millennium.
