Shahrukh Khan married Gauri at the age of 21 when SRK was nothing, and he was working hard to create an identity in Bollywood. Gauri's parents were against this marriage as Shahrukh was from a different religion. Shahrukh even changed his name to Abhinav to make them feel that he was a Hindu boy. However, later he told the truth to Gauri's parents and convinced them for the marriage.
Recently, Gauri Khan in an interview to a magazine said, "Shahrukh has definitely been my inspiration. He is extremely focused in his work and is extremely ambitious. When I got into interior designing, he was very happy and he really wanted me to do this. He believes that everybody should work and be passionate about their work. He is so driven and I'm completely inspired by him. In fact, my design journey started because he gave me a complete free hand in doing up our homes."

Shah Rukh says that he was 18 years old when he first saw his wife Gauri. In Farhan Akhtar's chat show Shahrukh said, "I first met Gauri when I was 18 years old. I started very late, unlike Hrithik who started at the age of 12. I was very shy of girls that time. I still am. I saw Gauri dancing with a boy and asked my friend to ask her if she would dance with me. "

Talking about his first meeting with Gauri, Shahrukh added, "He went and asked her but she said 'No, I am waiting for my boyfriend.' I had a heartbreak thinking I've lost her. But later on I realised that it was actually her brother and she lied to everyone so that no one comes and asks her to dance with them. Later on, I called her one day and told her "Mujhe bhi apna bhai samjho." The moment I said that, she was ready to marry me."

Talking about her initial days after marriage, Gauri Khan had once said, "I was not too happy about him coming to Bombay, and I didn't even know when he became a star, it was very shocking for me to be here in Mumbai, films, etc, it was very difficult, and I actually didn't want his films to do well, I always thought that if his films flop then I will go back to Delhi. Because when you are so young, you don't know anything, I didn't know anything about films, how the whole thing works."

Once Gauri's mother came to visit her in Mumbai and she was shocked as there was no furniture, not even a chair or bed in the house, and she asked Gauri that how can she live like that? Gauri said that she and Shahrukh Khan are shifting to a new flat in a month and then they will do their shopping, but that one month stretched to another year, and later they moved into their own apartment.

So when his son Aaryan was due, Shahrukh Khan told the doctor that if something happens not to worry about the baby, but save the mother. Today, he is blessed with two children Aaryan and Suhana.
