Read the excerpts.
At the launch of Bombay Talkies' trailer it was said that all the four stories of the film have come directly from the directors heart. Your story in the film is about a failed actor how did this story come to your mind?
(Laughs) So do you want to say I am a failed actor? I never wanted to become an actor. This story is about a failed actor but he is not any film's hero. Inside every human being there is one hidden actor, writer and singer. This failed actor is one such person who thinks that he is a big actor. And one day he gets the chance to act. Many people complain that they have not got the chance in life to prove themselves. But when we get chance we run away from it. My story is about a man's failure and success.
Did you approach anyone apart from Nawazuddin Siddiqui for Bombay Talkies?
No, I haven't thought of anybody except Nawazuddin. I am trying to work with him ever since Black Friday got released. I tried to cast him in Oye Lucky Lucky Oye also, but it didn't happen. I was trying to work with him from past seven years. So, when I got Bombay Talkies I thought I will work with Nawazuddin only. And it was my good luck that he said yes.
For the first time it's happening that four directors are working together. Did you face any difficulty because of this?
No, instead we all used to sit together, have fun. And gossip about films. Working together was like a gift for us.
Anything about Karan, Zoya and Anurag that you want to share with us?
I remember those moments the most when me, Karan, Zoya and Anurag used to have fun. I noticed that we all are successful in our respective fields. When I saw Karan's film I told him that this is his beginning. Bombay Talkies has given a new director to film industry whose name is Karan Johar. Every director has worked as if Bombay Talkies is their first film.
In Bombay Talkies Aamir Khan is seen in an old actor's getup. Why so?
So that you people can realise that our old cinema is so rich and we can connect to it even today.
Today everything is about 100 crore club? What do you have to say on this?
Everything changes with time, even the definition of success. Gone are the days when one film used to stay for 10 weeks in cinema halls. Today so many films are made and the number of cinema halls are so less that a film earns 100 crore in 3-4 weeks only. So it's fine. No one should be bothered about it.
