After entertaining us with hit films like Barfi and Yeh Jawaani Hai Deewani, the handsome and talented Ranbir Kapoor will soon be seen in Abhinav Kashyap's forthcoming film Besharam. Ranbir will be supported by debutante actress Pallavi Sharda, who will play the female lead role in the film. It was being said earlier that Ranbir was not quite happy about Pallavi being cast in the film. However, the actor brushed it aside saying that he is usually glad when new actresses enter the industry.
Ranbir Kapoor also spoke about his relationship with Katrina Kaif, his rumoured girlfriend. He said she is a very special person in his life. Check out all that Ranbir had to say in an interview with Oneindia Reporter Sonika Mishra.
After delivering hit films like Barfi and Yeh Jawaani Hai Deewani, you will be seen in Besharam. What is your expectation from the film?
I did not expect Barfi to do well at the Box Office, but I was sure it will be appreciated by the critics. As for Yeh Jawaani Hai Deewani, there were lot of things in our favour... for instance, mine and Deepika's hit jodi, romance and the wonderful script of the film.
Besharam is a complete masala flick. There is romance, action, dance and songs...everything that is required for a film to be a hit. Moreover, the film has a very interesting script. So I am not expecting anything in particular nor do I have any sort of pressure on me. With this film, I only want to entertain my audience.
Has the script of Besharam been written with you in mind?
Abhinav did not write the script for me as such. He saw me as an actor who could fit in this role. He was pretty impressed with my performance in Rockstar and he told me at that point that he would come to me soon with a film proposal.
Salman Khan, during the Bigg Boss 7 press conference said that new actors like Ranbir Kapoor is giving actors like him a run for their money. What do you have to say regarding this?
I got to know that Salman Khan said so about me. This only goes to prove that Salman is not at all insecure as an actor. It also shows that Salman is an extremely good and composed actor. It's only six years since I have started acting. However, actors like Salman Khan, Shahrukh Khan, Amitabh Bachchan and Hrithik Roshan are the superstars of the Bollywood industry. So when somebody speaks so highly of me, I feel very proud of myself.

In Besharam promo, you were seen singing the song of Shahrukh Khan (Tujhe Dekha Tho) and was also seen cracking jokes related to Salman Khan. Were you by any chance making fun of them?
Shahrukh Khan is known for his sense of humour, and if at anytime he feels that I have made fun of him, I am ready to apologise. As for Salman, I made fun of his name Chulbul Pandey (the character played by my dad Rishi Kapoor in the film).
Your father Rishi Kapoor is a Bollywood star even today. Do you ever try to copy him?
I don't think anybody can copy my dad since he has no specific style. Secondly, I want to make a mark on my own, and not by copying somebody else. I already have been typecast as a 'star child'. It is also true that I bagged my first film because I was the son of Rishi and Neetu Kapoor. However, if you have to stay in the industry, you have to make it on your own.
On the sets of Besharsam, were your parents taking care of you or was it the other way round?
On the sets, I was behaving like a parent! I was on the lookout for my father and was carefully monitoring the kind of scene that my mom was being given and how she would do it! My mom took care of me for 30 years, and now it's my turn.
People have always enjoyed watching all your romantic jodis. What would you say about that?
I think all my characters in various films have been liked by the audience since I have been loved a lot onscreen by all the actresses that I have been paired with.
Whether it is Sonam Kapoor or Deepika Padukone, I have acted with the best actresses in tinselville. The contribution of a female actresses is very important in any film and since most of my hit films have been romantic movies, my chemistry with my female co-star is very important.
In Yeh Jawaani Hai Deewani, you had a few good dance tracks and even in Besharam, there are a few dance numbers. Did you feel there was any competition between you and Pallavi since she is a professional dancer?
I am very lucky that all the actresses who has been paired opposite me have been good dancers. Sonam, Deepika, Katrina and Illeana are all good dancers. Pallavi too is a trained dancer and when you dance with such good dancers, the energy within you doubles!
It was reported that when you got to know that Pallavi will be cast with you in Besharam, you were very upset since she is a new actress. Is it true?
Not at all. In fact, I feel happy that there is a new actress since many of the accomplished actresses don't have time and might not be available at all times for the film since they will be busy with 2-3 films at a time.
So, when it's a new heroine, work becomes easy as she is always available for the film. So I was happy that Pallavi was part of the film. But yes, it's a bit difficult to promote the movie since nobody is aware of the actress. So, obviously there is more pressure on you.
Your name in Besharam is Babli, which is usually a girl's name. How did you feel when you were told that your name will be Babli in the film? Besides, what are the challenges you faced while portraying the role of Babli?
I liked it when I got to know about the name of my character in Besharam. I feel that even the audience will be able to relate to the characters with such different and unique names.
I found it difficult to do the role of Babli since the character is extremely shameless and indecent. He keeps itching and scratching the hair on his chest and speaks obnoxiously. In real life, I am extremely well behaved and cultured person.
You are very media friendly while your father Rishi kapoor is not. Why is it so?
My fathers speaks openly and that has got him into trouble everytime he confronted my mom at home. So, now he has totally stopped talking to the media.
You have stopped talking about your personal life to the media. You were not like this earlier. What has changed?
A lot has been written about my personal life already. I have accepted that Katrina is a very special person in my life. However, what I have noticed in our society is that if you are in a relationship and if that relationship does not end in marriage, a lot of negative things is said about the girl in question.
Whenever I get married, I will inform everybody about my decision. But till the time I am not sure, I don't want to talk about it. I can't tell everybody who is in my bedroom, and who I am going for a drive with or having dinner with, but at the same time, I can't stop people from talking about it either.
You said on KBC that you want to prove to your dad that you can also do something constructive. Why so?
My father always said that I was shameless and stupid. So I have always wanted to prove that I can also do something useful. This has always been my motto in life - to prove my worth to my father. By appearing on KBC, I wanted to prove to my father that I too am intelligent.
Do you intend to promote Besharam on Salman Khan's Bigg Boss 7?
I think that every film requires a particular platform to promote the movie. We have promoted Besharam on KBC and Comedy Nights With Kapil. We haven't thought of promoting the film on Bigg Boss. Salman Khan has always been a great entertainer and so is Amitabh Bachchan. Kapil is also pretty good with comedy. All these people come across as very simple and humble and that is the reason why people like them.
