Shahrukh Khan, who owns the Kolkata Knight Riders in the Indian Premiere League(IPL) is all geared up for the upcoming Indian football league. The Bollywood superstar is planning to bid for the Kolkata franchise of the new league promoted by All India Football Federation (AIFF) and IMG-Reliance.
The actor had different plans earlier but he has changed his mind now. "Earlier I was planning to buy stakes in Goan I-League club Dempo and now with the new franchise-based league coming up, I will have a look at it. I will love to own a franchise," Shahrukh revealed.
SRK also told that he is interested in buying the Kolkata team. "I will love to have the Kolkata football club," he said. AIFF's commercial partner IMG-Reliance plans to glamourise this Indian football league early next year. The plan is to have eight clubs, 176 players, 72 overseas stars and 10 weeks of packed action.
This new tournament is scheduled to kick off on January 18 and go on till March 30. This league will be on the same page as Indian Premier League (IPL) which is also managed by IMG.
The ten cities that have been shortlisted for the auction are Delhi, Kolkata, Bangalore, Pune, Mumbai, Kochi, Chennai, Hyderabad, Goa and Guwahati. So it looks like Shahrukh's dreams of promoting football may finally come alive.

n 2008, Shahrukh Khan in partnership with actress Juhi Chawla and her husband purchased the ownership rights for the IPL franchise representing Kolkata. They acquired the team for a price of Rs 3.57 billion.
RK's Kolkata Knight Riders(KKR) is one of the richest teams in the IPL. They had a poor performance in the first three season of IPL but later in the year 2012, they were the champions.
In an IPL match in 2012, Shahrukh was served notice by a police for smoking in public. Later in the same year, he got tangled in a bigger trouble. The actor received a five-year ban from the Wankhede stadium because he argued with security at the ground.
Shahrukh was always in sports. During his school days at St. Columbia's School, he was accomplished in sports, drama and academics. He had also won an award called the Sword of Honour which is an annual award given to the student who best represents the spirit of the school.

The actors love for sports has not stopped at school. In the 2007 movie Chak De! India, Shahrukh plays the role of Kabir Khan, former Indian Hockey Captain. This movie was declared a blockbuster.
Upcoming Football League
SRK is looking forward to this Indian football league. The players will be up for grabs in September. It is said that David Beckham may be in for some action in the tournament.
