Shahrukh Khan: King Khan Celebrates His 48th Birthday Today

On 2nd November, a legend of Indian cinema, Shahrukh Khan, was born at the Talwar nursing home in New Delhi. He was born in a middle class family and since then has gone on to become the richest actor in the world. Today on his birthday we share his journey from a simple Delhi lad to being the King Khan in Bollywood.

SRK used to live in a modest house at F-442 Rajendra Nagar and was enrolled in tiny tots when he was a toddler. He was then admitted into the prestigious St Columba school, where on his first day, when he was interviewed, he said that his father is a Tempo driver as he used to own a transportation business. He was quite a naughty student and was often scolded and punished for his antics.

He was very bad in Hindi subject, but one day his mother told him that if he got the highest marks in class, she would take him to a theatre. He had never been to a movie hall before, so he stayed up all night and got full marks in the subject.

This was the turning point in his life as he got the feel for Hindi cinema, and thus decided to become an actor. His favourite actress while growing up was the legendary Mumtaz and whenever her songs used to play on the radio, Shahrukh would get up and start dancing.

His father expired when he was just 15 years old and after ten years he also lost his mother. This compelled him to leave Delhi and he came to Mumbai to pursue his dream of becoming an actor. He initially made his mark playing negative roles which no actor at that time wanted to do as it would spoil their image. But King Khan defied all odds and the movies made him an overnight star.

After that he concentrated more on romantic roles and made his image of a romantic hero. His biggest hit till date, Dilwale Dulhaniya Le Jayenge, is still running in theatres after 18 years of its release. He has won the maximum number of Filmfare awards in the lead actor category. He has also proved his versatility as an actor in movies like Swades, Chak De India and Chennai Express.

Baadshah Khan is also known for his shrewd business mind and after starting up production companies, he has also invested in the IPL franchise Kolkata Knight Riders. His investments and his sheer dedication has made him the richest actor in the world today.

He owns houses all over the world and has a flat in London, a villa in Palm Jumeriha and of course his palace in Mumbai, Mannat.
