Meet Rani Mukherji: The Mardaani Of Bollywood

Actress Rani Mukherji is gearing up for release of her next film Mardaani. Actress is playing the role of a Police Officer in the film and will be seen doing some action scenes.

Rani was not interested to pursue her career in acting but the actress fell in love with the big screen after working as a child artist in a Bengali film Biyer Phool. After this, filmmaker Salim Khan offered her the film Aa Gale Lag Ja but at that time Rani refused to work.

Later, director Salim Khan again approached her for the film Raja Ki Aayegi Baraat and this time Rani accepted the role. With this film Rani Mukherjee made her Bollywood debut in the year 1997 but unfortunately the movie failed at box office. Despite failure of the film at Box Office, the actress was appreciated for her role in the film. After the failure of this film, Rani completed her higher studies and then came a major turn in her professional career.

In the year 1998, Rani was paired opposite actor Aamir Khan in the film Ghulam which was directed by filmmaker Vikram Bhatt. Although the film did moderate business at the box office, the song Aati Kya Khandala became a big hit of that year. Rani was next seen in the film Kuch Kuch Hota which also released in the same year and Rani won the Award for the Best Actress in Supporting Role for the same. Her films like Mehendi and Hello Brother did poor business at the box office and the actress was left behind in the race to stardom. Rani was critically acclaimed for her role of a rape victim in the film Hey Ram. The film was India's official entry into Oscars in the year 2000. Even after few flops, the Bengali beauty didn't give up. Rani gave a stunning performance in the film Saathiya which was directed by Shaad Ali and won the first best Actress Award of her career for essaying the role of Dr. Suhani Sharma.

Rani was appreciated for her acting skills in the films like Chalte Chalte and Yuva which released in the year 2003 and 2004 respectively. Rani won her second Best Actress Award for the film Hum Tum in which she romanced actor Saif Ali Khan. Black is the best film of her career till now which was released in the year 2005. Rani won Best Actress Award for portraying the role of a deaf and blind girl in the film.
