I Will Sing Until My Fans Stop Me: Salman Khan

He is someone who comes in your heart and not your mind. Yes, we are talking about none other than Kick star, Salman Khan. This year, Salman Khan is coming back to take his Eidi with his upcoming film, Kick. Directed by Sajid Nadiadwala, the action movie stars Jacqueline Fernandez, Randeep Hooda, and Nawazuddin Siddiqui.

Last year, Salman Khan neither take eidi nor got a chance to give eidi. However, in 2014, Salman is back and this time as a Devil in Kick. Recently, Salman Khan has spoken up about the love he gets from his fans and how he manages to win their hearts every time.

Did you sign Kick only for Sajid?

Sajid was not the reason behind signing Kick. The reason was Kick and the story. Sajid has been a very good producer and a close friend of mine, Sohail and Arbaaz as well. We really liked the script so decided to do the film. From script writing to direction, Sajid has been involved in everything.

What is the meaning of Kick in the title?

This kick is not the football kick. It is neither the kick we use to start a motorcycle, nor the kick that you get after drinking alcohol or doing drugs. This kick is something that you get after doing good work. When we do something good and feel satisfied, the movie shows that exact kick or feeling.

The songs you sung in Kick are topping the charts. How does it feel?

I rehearsed the songs and practiced them while shooting. I have also sung songs in Hello Brother and Wanted. May be they did not like my voice then, but liking it now.

So you really like singing or do it as the filmmaker wants?

I can't do anything unless my heart says and pushes me to do it. But when I sing alone, or at events, then I really enjoy it. I haven't taken any training, don't even know Saregama. Wajid used to sing in front of me and I used to copy him. Kick songs are good as it has been composed by Himesh. It also has Meet Brothers. Wajid taught me how to sing so he has become my Guru. Wajid has his own style of singing and I had to try my own style. It was difficult but I sung it!

How did it feel listening to your song? Do you plan to sing again?

When I used to listen to my voice after recording, I used to hate it. Composers said it was nice, but I just wondered. Later I came to know that the song is released after a big process, and the final outcome will be 70% better. While songs sung by professional singers are processed in 1-2 hours, my song took 2-3 days. I will keep singing till my fans don't ask me to stop!

It is reported that the song was first sung by Sonu Nigam. Later you were asked to dub it.

Sonu had sung the song earlier, but he was removed. Mohit Chauhan sung the song later. His voice is just wow! However, they wanted something different. They asked me to sing and they liked my voice. This is how I sung this song.

In most of your films, you play larger than life roles. Why?

I like this type of films. Even my audience have a lot of expectations so, I have to stick to this type of movies. The genre of my film making is very difficult from other genres. I have to entertain my fans bring tears of joy, keep the fans which is very difficult. My films have action, entertainment, romance and dialogues. The movies have goodness as well.

You have worked with 2 hot actresses, Jacqueline and Nargis. How was the experience?

People call them hot but they are actually sweet. I don't know how well they gel, but their chemistry in front of me was nice. Nargis has done a Yo Yo Honey Singh song which is beautiful. Nargis is a good dancer and very beautiful too. I feel the Devil song must benefit her. From sometime, the actress has been taken very negatively, but I feel she is a good actress and a good human being.

What do you say about Jacqueline? She feels you and Sajid did a favour on her.

Jacqueline is a Simran types girl. She is a fun loving girl and doesn't show any stardom. She is a hardworking girl. She got Kick after so many years simply because of her hard work. Jacqueline proved herself in small movies and got the movie. One more thing, I had only one choice which was Jacqueline. It is not that we have done a favour on her. We wanted Jacqueline as she was fit for this role.

After Kick, Jacqueline gave an interview in Hindi. Does the credit goes to you?

Her tutor must have taught her Hindi. I have stopped giving Hindi classes.

Do you feel that Eid is the best time to release your movies? Eid is lucky for you?

Be it Eid or Diwali, every movie does well on holidays. No good movies release during Ramadan, and people want to watch movies on holidays. Apart from this, both kids and adults have a long holiday during Diwali. They love going to cinema halls during holidays. There is one more option to release your film when there is no release 2-3 weeks before or 2-3 weeks later. These days, so many movies release so we don't get such dates. So its best to release movies during festivals like Diwali, Holi, Eid, Independence Day, Republic Day.

Kick is a South remake. How similar is the movie and why are you showing interest in the remake films?

Our audience can't watch South movies, so if we take their topic and make it nicely, then the movie does a lot of business here. Kick is a remake of the South version and the base is same. We have made the film in our way. I can't do rom com now. So I can only work in movies like No Entry and Sooraj Barjatiya's films.

Jai Ho did not fare well at the box office. What do you feel were the reasons behind the debacle.

Jai was a series film which we made for the kids. When you make larger than life films, the audience's expectations double in the next film. Sometimes people love this and sometimes they don't as they feel it is too much. Now when Jai Ho comes on TV, people like it, but it is the same movie which they did not like on the big screen. People did not like the music of the film. Another reason was we released the film in January which was led to the loss. It was a mistake.

After many years, you are working with Sooraj Barjatya in Prem Ratan Dhan Payo. How does it feel?

It is a great film. This is till now the most difficult film in my career. I am working with Sooraj after 13 years, and many things have changed in this time. I have changed. After 13 years, I am not the same honest and truthful person. But Sooraj and Raj babu are still the same. Sooraj still has that truthfulness that I saw while doing Maine Pyaar Kiya, but I have lost it. Becoming that old Prem is very diffucult for me. I have to forget whatever I learned in these years. Until and unless I feel that Prem inside me, I can't do this film. To be honest, this film is going to make me what I was before.

What are your upcoming movies?

No Entry, I am doing a film with Karan Johar called Shuddhi, a movie with Aditya Chopra, then with Kabir Khan, a movie with Boney Kapoor, and a movie with Mahesh Manjarekar which we both will produce together.

Will you ever play a negative character?

No, not till now and did not even think about it.

What would you like to say about the rift with photographers that occurred recently.

I come on the stage since years, cameramen speak right left, once they click pics, their work is done. I always thought it is their job which earns them bread. But now I feel that by clicking pics, the photographers are doing me a favour. But there is a cameraman I know who misbehaved outside the court and at Royalty Club. I have some photographers who click better pictures and will come with me wherever I go. They will release the pics for my fans as well. This will stop them from capturing pics without out consent. Some photographers click pics at occasions which we do not even know. This will affect your own bread and butter, not my stardom.
