Bollywood Stars Who Left The Audience Pleasantly Surprised With Their Cameo Roles!

By Prathibha Chandra

Bollywood movies are a power pack of entertainment, isn't it? Action, drama, romance, emotions, comedy, music, dance... Too much! But more is less for the talented directors, so they introduced cameo roles, as a surprise gift to the movie lovers. As movie-mad people, are we complaining? Hell no... We love them...

Cameos, are not a new concept in Bollywood, but such appearances were not as frequent in the past, unlike today. Called 'Guest Appearances', these roles were truly character-oriented.

Akshay Kumar-Dishoom

Everybody is talking about how Akshay is funny, spontaneous and so stylish in this film. Hey listen! He just did a cameo! Supposedly, Varun Dhawan and John Abraham are the heroes right? Swapped... Shhh...

Amitabh Bachchan-English Vinglish

A meaty role, a lead role or just a cameo, beating the baap-of-bollywood, Mr. Bachchan, in any, is a dream, unfulfilled. He makes us smile by his graceful acting, comic timing and down-to-earth simplicity as just a cameo in this film. Sirji, tussi great ho!

Hrithik Roshan-Luck By Chance

Hrithik Roshan-Luck By Chance

Hrithik, as the bratty actor Zaffar Khan, made his presence felt as a cameo in this film, even enhancing it by his dancing, in the hit song Baware. Yet, he took nothing away from the talented actor Farhan Akhtar, who had just kick-started his career in the industry. Cameo perfect!

Ranbir Kapoor-PK

Hey, the movie ends, wait! Who's that with Aamir appearing from the clouds? Ranbir Kapoor?... Fans, did you scream? He looked so cute and funny, didn't he? Icing on the cake!

Ranveer Singh-Finding Fanny

Ranveer couldn't afford to let go of a chance of playing Deepika Padukone's husband Gabo (for free!!) in this movie, even though Gabo comes and dies in just a scene! He has a funny, infectious energy! Can you resist this ever-excited soul!

Priyanka Chopra-Ra One

Priyanka charms us by her grace, beauty and theatrical acting, as a dramatic damsel-in-distress who's to be rescued by her hero Lucifer in this film (in a dream sequence). Sanju Baba, we can't forget you too in the scene!

Amitabh-Jaya-Ki And Ka

Amitabh and Jaya, charming couple, aren't they? We were pleased to see them play themselves in this movie. As usual, Amitji showing off his comic side is cute and adorable as ever and Jayaji is Jayaji!

Salman Khan-Ajab Prem Ki Ghazab Kahani

In this movie Salman Khan plays himself in a cameo role. How easy Sallu? Don't we all love him the way he is? Everyone's nodding!

Aditi Rao Hydari-Khoobsurat

Royalty runs in her blood. So one's not surprised if Aditi looked all pretty, dream-like and like a princess in her cameo role as Princess Kiara in this film. Easy to portray herself, we think! Royal touch!

Ajay Devgan-Fitoor

Ajay Devgan-Fitoor

Some actors are so talented that they deliver it all in just a scene... Yes, Ajay is one such actor. Playing Aditya Roy Kapur's Godfather in this movie, Ajay's role play is intense, crisp and impactful. Can't take ‘eyes' of him... Hypnotising did you say?

We are talking about such performances: famous comedian Johnny Walker in Anand as a Gujarati stage artist and as a makeup artist in Kamal Hassan's Chachi 420; Asrani as 'Angrezon ke zamaane ke jailor' in Sholay and Jagdeep as 'Soorma Bhopali' in Sholay as well. Didn't they depict specific characters and make these immortal?

Salman Khan in Kuch Kuch Hota Hai and Ajab Prem Ki Gazab Kahani; Shahrukh Khan in Heyy Baby, Saathiya and Bhoothnath; Amitabh Bachchan in Paheli, English Vinglish and Ki and Ka; Abhishek Bachchan in Hum Tum and Salaam Namaste and Ranbir Kapoor in PK are cameos of the recent past, that pleasantly surprised film lovers.

Today, cameos are considered the director's secret striking stroke. It works wonders if big names of Bollywood are involved.

A recent laugh: Akshay Kumar who appeared as a cameo in Dishoom, swept all the attention from the movie, inspite of having two leads, Varun Dhawan and John Abraham! Ha Ha!
Cameos Zindabad!
