The actor once revealed to a leading daily that his father Salim Khan would recommend Sunny Deol, Sanjay Dutt or Kumar Gaurav's names to producers but never his name, as Salim wanted directors to notice his son and cast him in their films.

Salman Khan began his acting career with a supporting role in Biwi Ho To Aisi (1988) and achieved success with the leading role in his next release-Sooraj Barjatya's romance Maine Pyar Kiya (1989).

Surprisingly, Salman had no work for almost a year post his first superhit film Maine Pyar Kiya. Later, Salim Khan published an advertisement in a trade magazine that the good-looking actor was signed by a big producer. After this advertisement Salman got many movie offers and the rest is history!
