Popular
model
and
actress
Vidya
Malavde
is
currently
basking
in
the
success
of
blockbuster
film
Chak
De,
India
in
which
she
plays
the
role
of
the
team
captain.
Interestingly,
Vidya
has
never
been
into
any
sport
in
her
whole
life.
So
what's
the
secret
behind
her
onscreen
tricky
hockey
moves?
Dancing,
she
says,
helped
her
learn
the
strenuous
sport
for
the
film.
Vidya
has
trained
in
North-Indian
classical
dance
form
Kathak,
as
well
as
foreign
dance
forms
like
Salsa,
Fox
Trot,
Rumba
and
Tap
dancing.
She
is
also
a
certified
yoga
instructor.
Says
Vidya:
"I
have
been
practising
dance
for
the
last
nine
years,
hence
the
hockey
moves
that
required
hand-eye
coordination
came
easily
to
me.
One
has
to
be
really
careful
in
hockey
while
handling
heavy
safety
gear
and
hard
sticks.
Hats
off
to
the
real
players
of
the
game
who
work
so
hard
and
win
for
our
country,
and
yet
they
get
little
recognition."
Perhaps
the
Chak
De
theme
will
jolt
our
political
leaders
out
of
slumber
and
motivate
them
to
give
our
country's
real
hockey
players
their
due.
