Mallika Sherawat Talks About Her Early Days

Some might call Mallika Sherawat a drama queen or a controversy queen but the fact is that she has struggled very hard to reach the place where she is today. Mallika recently shared a lot about her personal life and told us how difficult it was her to grow up in a place where women are just meant to breed and how regressive the system is.

In an interview with a leading newspaper, Mallika said " I come from a middle-class family and my dad was an engineer. I studied in Miranda House in Delhi and went to my village over the weekend. I grew up in an extremely male dominated home and women were not allowed to work. My mother would always tell me to study or cook. I was not allowed to have a sleepover with any of my friends in Delhi. Women in my community were treated in a very disgraceful manner and we were not even allowed to complete our education. So I ran away from my home and came to Mumbai." Click here to view images of Mallika Sherawat.

She further added " I changed my name from Reema Lamba to Mallika Sherawat as my father was against me using the family name. I also faced an assassination attempt in Haryana when I said that women over there are treated like cattle. Since then my brother has started living with me and now he is like a father figure to me. My mother visits us in Mumbai whenever she can and she tells me that my father is also coming to terms with my choice of career."

Mallika's, The Bachelorette India, Mere Khayalon Ki Mallika', starts on the 7th of October and will be on air at 9.30 PM from Monday to Friday.
