Dhanak Story

Dhanak movie revolves around wonderful relationship between a brother and sister. Story in detail: Pari (Hetal Gadda) has promised her little blind brother Chotu (Krrish Chhabria) that she’ll help get his eyesight back before he turns 10. When she spots her favorite star Shah Rukh Khan on the poster for an eye-donation drive, she is convinced her hero will help her on her mission. Will they make it? Will Chotu ever see again? We all need a li'l bit of sparkle and rainbow in our lives. Director Nagesh Kukunoor's Dhanak reminds us of the small joys of life and teaches us a lesson in dealing with our sorrows. Who better to learn this from, than kids? Nagesh's keen understanding of human emotions comes handy as he makes the young Pari his protagonist. Even though Dhanak stays mysterious till its last scene, it gets too repetitive to hold your interest. Its soulful music, heartfelt style of narration and of course, delightful kids can't make this half-baked story soar.

Children’s films in Bollywood are strictly for young ones. Appealing to adults isn’t a priority. But Nagesh Kukunoor’s Dhanak goes against the grain; it’s a drama that is endearing to children and their parents/guardians alike. Plus, the children don’t speak in a gratingly saccharine manner (insert a small thank you to Kukunoor). Young actors Gada and Chhabria do an outstanding job of playing the spirited siblings. While the first half is entertaining and feel-good, the second meanders and would have benefited from crisper editing. But don’t give up on Dhanak. Stay with Pari and Chhotu, There’s definitely a dhanak (rainbow) at the end of it all.
