Dum Laga Ke Haisha Story

Dum Laga Ke Haisha movie revolves around the life of a small town couple - Prem and Sandhya. From overcoming his fear of the English language to dealing with an overbearing father, Prem (Ayushmann Khurrana) discovers that his oversized and mismatched wife, Sandhya (Bhumi Pednekar), who he thought was a spanner in his business and life, will actually lead him to something quite cool. Story in detail: It is the 1990s, the tape-cassette is dying, CDs will soon be the rage and a regular arranged marriage will turn out to be a perfect mismatch. He is a shy music buff who runs a tape recording shop in Haridwar. She likes to dance to the band tunes at her own wedding. He has nightmares about drawing a blank at his English exam. She is about to carve a niche for herself as a teacher. But now, they are married and they are supposed to spend a lifetime together - and he is still trying to find balance on their scooter ride together. From overcoming his fear of the English language to dealing with an overbearing father, he discovers that his oversized wife, who he thought was a spanner in his spool, will actually lead him to something quite cool. Characters Prem: Ayushmann Khurrana Prem, a 24 years old high-school drop out and a die-hard Kumar Sanu fan has, much against his father's wishes, turned his family's ancestral grocery shop into an Audio-cassette recording shop. It is the mid 90s and with the advent of CDs, Prem's audiotape recording shop seems to be heading towards a shutdown. And in the middle of all this - there are three things which never fail to bring tears to Prem's eyes - the English question paper, his father's slippers and Kumar Sanu's mellifluous voice. Each has it's own pain. The film is about Prem finding himself within his pain, and with the support of his dysfunctional family. Sandhya: Bhumi Pedneka Sandhya, a confident 21 year old, and on her way to becoming a teacher, has dreams of her own. And topmost among them is her desire to get married to a man who respects her for who she is - and that includes her 85 Kgs, well-educated frame. Chandrabhan Tiwari: Sanjay Mishra - Late 40s Prem's father, not just the family patriarch but also the bearer of the proverbial slipper, who constantly reminds Prem of the pain and social humiliation he will continue to bear till he proves himself to be of some worth - as a son, as a husband and as a human being. Sashi Tiwari: Alka Amin - Early 40s Prem's mother, whose only wish is that Prem marries a working woman, who can contribute to and uplift their family's deteriorating financial condition. Truly a family woman, Sashi will even sacrifice her daily soap so that her shy son and his bride can watch an erotic English film on their only Black and White TV and proceed towards fulfilling her second wish - that her son experiences the bliss of maturity, which to her, in some strange way, is related to her son losing his virginity. Nain Tara: Sheeba Chaddha - Early 40s Prem's bua (fraternal aunt), dotes on Prem but will not sacrifice her daily soap for Prem and Sandhya's conjugal delights. Separated from her husband for the past 15 years, though Nain Tara is a little distrustful of Sandhya, she also at the same time deeply understands what it takes to have a successful marriage. Subhadra Rani: Seema Pahwa - Early 40s An over bearing but loving mother, she really wants her daughter Sandhya's marriage to work. For her a successful marriage is the pillar of a happy life. Yet her daughter's marriage is far from successful or happy. Nonetheless, imbibed with positivity and good faith, she keeps giving her daughter unsolicited and sometimes radical advice as to how to ignite that spark between a married couple.

Dum Laga Ke Haisha is all about the true love or like their tag line reads, about love that comes in all sizes. The movie gives us a picture of reality but with a lot of entertainment attached to it. Dum Laga Ke Haisha is a comedy movie that promises some good laughs and is gearing to break all stereotypes with their lead heroine Bhumi. Dum Laga Ke Haisha may not be that hyped but the film is worth the watch for it is a laugh riot with a message that says love comes in all sizes. I recommend a theatre watch so book your tickets soon people!

Dum Laga Ke Haisha, written and directed by Sharat Katariya, is worth its weight in gold. It is crafted with a string of wonderfully well-written scenes that flow seamlessly into each other, eventually culminating in a heart-warming climax. The film plays primarily with emotions but not for a moment does it stray anywhere near what might be deemed excessive. YRF hasn't produced a better film in years. Dum Laga Ke Haisha is more than just a must-watch.

Nostalgia is the only emotion that matches love in intensity and Sharat Katariya’s Dum Laga Ke Haisha milks our nostalgia for that bygone era to wonderful effect. This is as crowd-pleasing as a film gets, only without mawkish manipulation or contrivances. It’s also the best Yash Raj film in a very long time. Director Katariya keeps things very simple, yet entertaining and relatable. If you’ve had first hand experience with a situation like the one in which the film’s lead couple find themselves, they’ll find enough to appreciate in Dum Laga Ke Haisha.

Sharat Katariya noted for writing Bheja Fry, Hum Tum Shabana, marks an impressive directorial debut with the flick, which is made with heart. He has a good grip on the screenplay while the execution is well graphed. However, earlier too there have been movies dealing with the unusual pairs and most of them have been truly magnificent with their final outcome. Dum Laga Ke Haisha keeping the premise similar lays a different result. The odd pairing of Sandhya an XL lady and comparatively linear Prem is humorous and emotional as well. Odd pairing isn’t an issue but it’s the understanding and compatibility, which matters the most in a marital life. Sharat Katariya deals with this simple thought through an extra-ordinary measure in Dum Laga Ke Haisha.
