Sultan Critics Review

Sultan, it is basically a sports based film but with a pinch of all factors of 'paisa-vasool' entertainment i.e., romance, songs, power-packed dialogues & action! So gear up to get the answers to all your questions; How is the film? Is it worth watching or not? Does Salman deliver his career best performance? Salman Khan really outdoes himself with this role of a wrestler. With this film, Salman will surely take you on an emotional roller-coaster ride. There are a few scenes, where he will make you giggle with his witty one-liners, while in other scenes, you might find yourself sobbing along with him. The second half of the film is totally dedicated to the hardwork of Salman Khan. Those training sequences of Sultan, in which Randeep trains Salman, will not let your eyes blink for even a second. Coming to the direction of the film, Ali Abbas Zafar has done a good job but that can't take away the fact that the movie has a lot of plotholes and some sequences did look over-dramatic! Sultan is a sports-drama film and it stars the Bhaijaan, the dialogues are written according to Salman's personality. But overall, it gets a thumbs up from his fans. VERDICT: Well, it's a Salman Khan movie after all. And there is no denying that he left no stones unturned to make the film worth watching! PS: Eid & Salman is indeed a tempting combination!
mid-day
Ali Abbas Zafar and producers YRF have cast 'Sultan' in the Bajrangi Bhaijaan mould. It's a big movie with the right dose of masala. 'Sultan' is a fun watch, offering the perfect fix to lift a not-so-great day. It's about love and the will to do anything that comes with protecting it. It's also about bringing yourself back from the dead, and saying, 'I am not going anywhere' — something that Sultan and Salman Khan, the man, have in common, despite their disparate destinies. The 'public' is going to lap this one up. Eid Mubarak.

With Sultan, Salman Khan has dropped another Eid blockbuster for his fans. This is the movie where Salman Khan finally breaks free from being Bhai and yet delivers a complete entertainer. Director Ali Abbas Zafar surprises us by keeping the slack moments mostly at bay in this 170-minutes enterprise. There’s a moment in the film in which Sultan Ali Khan says sorry to a character, and begins earning forgiveness. It is a what if’ moment, especially resonant in the face of his most recent controversy. It is tempting to wonder, just for a second, if that reel moment could turn real. In films, as in real life, an apology has lasting power.

Sultan treads a predictable line until it reaches the climax. In the best part of the movie, Salman carries forward his Bajrangi Bhaijaan act. The man you see in the ring is down to earth, humble and quite unlike your typical Bollywood superstar. He is scared of his opponents, and fails to hide his pain despite being the strong, silent kind. Sultan has all the right ingredients of a ‘masala’ potboiler, and whistling and sobbing are likely to go hand-in-hand here. Don’t go looking for a twist ending, though. We all know what to expect from such a film, but it’s still a lot of fun to see the underdog win.

The story grabs your attention since the start and thanks to the perfect blend of emotions and action, SULTAN turns out to be a quintessential potboiler that packs the right punches that will keep you glued. he sport in the second half, too many emotional scenes slows the pace of the film. However, Ali Abbas Zafar's directorial skills seem to have grown by leaps and bounds since his last film. A special mention to the way the wrestling matches have been shot in the second half, which are crisp and impactful. On the whole, SULTAN comes across as a paisa vasool, seeti-maar unadulterated entertainer which will be loved by classes and masses alike. At the box office, the lack of a credible opposition, perfect release timing [festival period] combined with an extended 5-day weekend will ensure that the film will break records and emerge as the biggest hit of the year so far. The film has got 'B-L-O-C-K-B-U-S-T-E-R' written all over it. Go for it!
