Some
years
back
there
were
rumours
that
producer
Bobby
Bedi
(Bandit
Queen,
Maqbool,
Mangal
Pandey)
wanted
to
make
a
film
on
the
Hindu
mythological
epic
Mahabharat.
There
was
buzz
that
some
of
the
biggest
names
from
the
industry
would
be
a
part
of
the
project.
However
there
was
no
news
on
the
project
since
then.
Now, B R Films have announced a film on Mahabharat. The banner had already made the great epic of Mahabharat into a television serial in the late 80s which was a big hit and one of the most successful television series.
Confirms Abhay Chopra, "Yes we are planning to make Mahabharat into a film. The budget of which is set to be Rs.100 crores." This will be one of the most expensive films to be made in Bollywood. Continues Abhay, "It will be a six hour feature film that will be released in two parts. The release of the two parts will happen in two consecutive weeks." The starcast of the film is yet to be finalized.
Speaking of mythological films, Rajkumar Santoshi recently announced Ramayanwhich would again be a big budget film. It will be interesting to see how two of the biggest filmmakers in Bollywood recreate these gigantic Indian mythologies onscreen.
