So Dor opened to rave reviews from critics all over. Performances were appreciated and director Nagesh Kukunoor's direction was applauded. While we couldn't agree any less on the brilliance of the film, how many know that the film is not original?

Dor is apparently inspired from a Malayalam film Perumazhakkalam that released in 2004. The Malayalam movie was well received and also shown at 'The International Film Festival of Kerala'. However Nagesh never seemed to have acknowledged the fact anywhere till now. In the times when filmmakers do not shy away from openly acknowledging that their film is inspired from another film, this comes as a surprise from Nagesh. On the contrary, Nagesh always quoted that Dor is inspired from a real life incident that happened some years ago.

Incidentally, this is not the first time that Nagesh has been inspired from another movie. His earlier film Teen Deewarein was loosely inspired from The Shawshank Redemption.
