There's
a
strong
rumour
in
the
corridors
of
power
that
this
year's
National
awards
winners
have
been
scrapped,
no
thanks
to
the
legal
issues
that
have
been
raised,
and
that
the
awards
will
be
discussed
and
announced
again.
If this is indeed the case then Rahul Bose has a lot to be unhappy about. According to reports two of the films where he plays the lead have won major National awards.
While Buddhadeb Dasgupta's Bengali film Kaal Purush is said to have won the National award for best film, Aparna Sen's 15 Park Avenue has reportedly won the National award for best feature film in English.
Says Rahul, "I keep hearing these list of probable National award winners. It's bizarre! And the whispers about Kaal Purush and 15 Park Avenue are strong enough for me to actually believe them. If true, then I'm very very happy. I rate Kaal Purush as one of my best performances. The joy of being in two films in two different languages is infinite. And though I play a Bengali in both , the Bengali guy in Kaal Purush is lower middle-class guy while in Aparna's film I played this English-educated NRI with an accent. The two roles felt so different and yet so representative of modern India."
Rahul strongly feels Konkona Sen-Sharma deserves a National Award for her performance in 15 Park Avenue. "I'd rate it among the best I've seen in recent times."
