Ever since Suchitra Sen quit Bollywood three decades ago, she has never made a public appearance. Soon, that may just change. The Government of India will honor the legendary actress with the Dadasaheb Phalke Award. A formal letter from the Information and Broadcasting Minister, Priyaranjan Dasmushi has been sent to her at her hometown, Kolkata. Her family is ecstatic about the honor. Her grand daughter Raima Sen believes that the award is long overdue, but is happy nonetheless.
Suchitra Sen has done about 5 Hindi films. Four out of them were blockbusters, which was quite an achievement. The last film that she did was the Bengali film Pranay Pasha. It was after this very film that she severed ties with the film industry. Efforts to contact her proved to be futile. Finally, after 30 years she might just come out of hiding to accept the award.
