Amol Palekar who last directed a Marathi-English bilingual Thaang/Quest announced his next film and this time Palekar has chosen Hindi language.

The movie titled Dumkata is a family comedy starring Om Puri, Sachin Khedekar, Shernaz Patel and two child actors Khush Malik and Aseen Desai.

Amol Palekar says, "Two demands are repeatedly made to me by my fans - start acting and make films similar to what Basuda (Basu Chaterjee) and Hrishida (Hrishikesh Mukherjee) made. I was an integral part of their cinema as an actor. Dumkata is my attempt to make a light-hearted family film of that genre. The script is completely original".

Palekar's wife Sandhya Gokhale who has penned the story, screenplay and dialogues of Dumkata says, "We have made a conscious decision to not take any big stars in the film. The script demanded good actors only." Dumkata will be entirely shot in and around the outskirts of Pune. Seven days of shooting has already been completed.

Om Puri who plays a grandfather in the film exclaims, "I am not creatively satisfied with the kind of roles that I have been offered off late. Films like Dumkata give me such fulfillment". Interestingly Om Puri has also sung a song in the film. In fact he has not sung but rapped to a number in the film. The lyrics have been penned by Gulzar and the music is given by Shankar-Ehsaan-Loy.
