It's a herculean task for actresses in regional films to get into Bollywood for the simple reason that there are lots of established actresses. Moreover, competition has stiffed up due to the presence of a long line of girls getting ready to step into films. So, Kannada actress Deepika Padukone was lucky when she was approached to act with Salman Khan in the Hindi remake of Telugu and Tamil film Pokiri. But she has sent shocking waves by refusing to act in the film.

The stupendous success of Telugu film Pokiri, starring Mahesh Babu and Ileana and its Tamil remake featuring Vijay and Asin has prompted producer Boney Kapoor to remake it in Hindi with Salman Khan as the hero. He approached Deepika to play Salman's heroine and she had agreed the offer. He also managed to rope in Prabhu Deva to direct the Hindi version. So, he was all set to show both the Telugu and Tamil versions of the film to the lead cast when the unexpected struck. Surprisingly, this model-turned actress, who made debut with Upendra through Indrajit Lankesh's Kannada film Aishwarya, turned everything around at the eleventh hour. She had shocked the producer by sending SMS that she couldn't come for the trial as well act in the film.

Boney Kapoor just can't understand what has gone wrong with Deepika. He had admitted that she should have at least called him to convey her inability to act in the film. "Yes! The news is true. I did receive an SMS from Deepika expressing not only her inability to attend the trial but also to do the film. I don't know the reason. At least she should have had the professional courtesy to talk to me and explain her side of the story. And thank God this was just a beginning. I had decided to cast her after I knew that she was doing Farah Khan's Om Shanti Om with Shah Rukh Khan. Even my wife Sridevi had strongly recommended her," he said.

The producer is clearly surprised by Deepika's move because every upcoming actresses would love to be a part of such an ambitious project. What is even more surprising is that she conveyed the message to the producer through SMS, which is very unprofessional. Well, experience might have caused this incident!
