Bill Bannerman, who has been assisting the Oscar winning director Clint Eastwood, has finally found his muse in Mallika Sherawat for his upcoming debut film Unveiled. After searching for hoards of faces across the Middle East and India, Bill has finally zeroed down on our very own Mallika.
The film revolves around the life of a Muslim woman who has two husbands and an American lover. Mallika plays the role of a woman born and brought up in West Asia, and who flies off to the US to meet her lover. It will be a blend of film noir, thriller and dark drama. Mallika went through a screen test in Los Angeles before getting the role and managed to beat top Indian actresses like Aishwarya Rai and Shilpa Shetty. Apparently Aishwarya had date problems and her upcoming marriage plans might have been a difficulty. Shilpa on the other hand, has won a lot of recognition post Big Brother but hasn't signed anything worthwhile as of now. Interestingly, Penelope Cruz and Hillary Swank had shown interest for the role, but the role required someone who looks like a Muslim woman, and who could lend a level of authenticity to the role. Mallika will be required to face the camera without make-up and don a burqa during the larger part of the shoot. Reportedly, she was made to wear a burqa during the auditions as well!
Bill Bannerman is scheduled to arrive in Mumbai today to make an official announcement about the film.
