Marathi
director
Nishikant
Kamath
has
taken
a
strange
and
challenging
route
to
success.
After
making
the
enormously
acclaimed
Dombivili
Fast
in
Marathi
with
Sandeep
Kulkarni
in
the
lead,
Kamath
took
the
film
to
Tamil
cinema
and
has
just
completed
the
film
in
Tamil
with
Madhavan
in
the
lead.
"Now I think I'm finally coming home," Laughs Kamath. On 18 May he starts his first Hindi film entitled Mumbai Meri Jaan. The film to be produced by UTV has an enormously interesting ensemble cast, quite like UTV's current release Metro where actors are used as actor and not stars.
Says Kamath, "That's exactly why I've chosen the cast that I have. Mumbai Meri Jaan will star Irrfan Khan, K.K Menon, Paresh Rawail, Soha Ali Khan and of course Madhavan. I don't think I can make a film without Madhavan," laughs Kamath.
Describing the film as a long lingering look at Mumbai, Kamath is fully into pre-production work now. "My Hindi project came together all of a sudden. When I made Dombivili Fast in Marathi I never thought I'd be making it in Tamil. And now after making a film in a language that I don't understand I'm going into an area that will take my cinema across regional borders. Strange are the ways of destiny!"
