SRK says term 'Bollywood' was coined in 70s

While it is becoming more and more obvious that Shahrukh Khan's home production, Om Shanti Om, is all set to embark on a historic start on November 9, the actor has a few interesting thoughts to share with his audience, regarding the 70's era, which forms an important part of the movie.

The lead artist of the Farah Khan directed, 'Diwali' week extravaganza, reveals that the term 'Bollywood' originated due to the psychedelic 70's, a very nostalgic and evolutive decade /phase for the Hindi film industry.

The top box-office draw laments that the West has preconceived notions about the Hindi film industry, and the general belief is that it is still dominated by flaring bell-bottoms, extravagant dance numbers and exaggerated acting.

Well, King Khan, we hope that after Om Shanti Om, some of these misconceptions will cease to exist, as the movie showcases the past and present era of Bollywood.
