Shilpa Shetty is inadvertently in the news for some reason or the other for quite sometime. First, the racial comment on her during the 'Big Brother' reality television show, and now the kissing issue. Those incidents gave her a lot of media attention. She is a big brand name now.
Hollywood actor Richard Gere's repeated kisses on her cheek in an AIDS campaign turned to be a potboiler in Rajasthan. Claiming the kisses to be an obscene and against Indian culture, Advocate Bhoop Singh and Jagannath filed cases against Gere and Shilpa.
They also turned against the television channel for the repetitive telecast of the incident. The advocates alleged the electronic media for violating the Information Technology Act 1968 by continuously showing the 'objectionable scenes' during the prime time show. The advocates said that the entire incident was pre-planned to defame Indian culture because Shilpa offered no resistance but enjoyed the kisses.
If proven guilty, Shilpa and Gere would be imprisoned for six years. Refuting the charges, the actress's spokesperson clarified that Shilpa has not received any court order or summons. He added that it was amateur and frivolous on the part of a government official to state that someone can get jailed for pecks on the cheeks. "If that is the case, more than half the country will have to be jailed," he quipped.
Currently Shilpa is in Australia promoting her new film Metro. She is expected to appear on the Australian Reality TV Show. According to an Australian daily report, Shilpa will go into the Big Brother house on the Gold Coast while on a promotional tour. She is expected to return by the end of the week. We hope to get more reaction from her.
