Usman Afzal's surprise visit shocks Amrita

Usman Afzal put rumours about his alleged break-up with Amrita Arora to rest in style. Fed up with false reports and terribly missing his girlfriend, the county cricketer decided to spring a surprise on his ladylove by landing in Mumbai three weeks ahead his scheduled arrival!

Says Usman, “I finished my cricket season last week and signed a three-year contract with Surrey County. But I still have a month before I join, so I decided to come to Mumbai. finished my press conference and was missing Amu a lot, so instead of waiting for three weeks to meet her, I decided to surprise her and landed up on Thursday morning."

He adds that his brother Aqib fetched him from the airport and took him to his apartment, after which her dropped in to meet Amu. “She was at Royal China for lunch with her parents when I surprised her!" says Usman.

Desired effect

Well, the efforts sure paid off. Usman says that Amu was so stunned at seeing him that she swallowed a dimsum! “I strolled in and she was shocked to see me. She had her mouth hanging open! After the initial shock, she was like — 'Oh my God! What are you doing here?" And then she was chattering nineteen to the dozen and extremely thrilled with my 'surprise."

Since then, the couple has been inseparable, even attending Kareena Kapoor"s birthday party at designer Aki Narula"s home. A delighted Amu adds, “I was shocked to see Usman, as I wasn"t expecting him for three weeks. He"s very romantic and loves surprising me like this."

Unaffected

Talking about rumours of a break-up, Usman says, “Talk is cheap, but I don"t let rumours upset me. My family knows there is no truth to it. In fact, Amu had come down to London in July for the Regent Street event and I had gone to cheer her."

Amu echoes his feelings, saying, “I don"t feel bad as my family and I know the truth. It"s true that we have to work on the relationship every day, especially with the distance, but Usi is awesome and totally helps keep it stable."

About her rumoured link-ups with Aftab Shivdasani and Dino Morea, she says, “Usi knows that both of them are dear friends. I respect my relationship with him too much to bring it to the level of explaining the rumours to him. He trusts me."

2007 has been known to be the year of break-ups but Amu chirps, “It"s been great for us!"
