Panaji (ANI): The brutal murder of British teenager in Goa has inspired a Bollywood director to transform the infamous incident on celluloid.
Prabhakar Shukla, inspired by real life incidents, had earlier made a film Kahaani Gudiya Ki, on the plight of a woman caught between her first husband captured by Pakistani troops during Kargil war in 1999, later released in 2004, and her second love whom she had remarried after taking her husband to be dead in the war.
This time he has been inspired by the murder of Scarlette Keeling, 15-year-old British girl and a drug addict who was allegedly raped and murdered in Goa in February. The incident had snowballed into an international controversy bringing the inadequate safety measures for tourists in India into limelight.
The film titled Rave Party is being made by Prabhakar as an attempt to highlight the consequences of drug abuse amongst youth. Drawing inspiration form Scarlette's murder, the young filmmaker wants to urge the youth to shun drugs by way of depicting the incident on-screen.
"I think what happened to Scarlette was a very bad thing. I have all the sympathy for her mother. I would like to show if you are only following and are just drawn into drugs that will harm not only your future but also your entire life. So, I want to take something to the society," said Prabhakar.
Scarlette's body was found with bruises all over her body on a deserted Goa beach, and the police had initially put the cause of death as drowning. Scarlette's case was the latest to highlight the safety of tourists in India. Fiona MacKeown, Scarlette's mother refused to accept the police version and accused authorities of trying to cover up the murder. Later, when second autopsy was done on her body, it confirmed that the 15-year-old was murdered and probably raped by her assailants.
Prabhakar is planning a trip next month to U.K. to meet Scarlette's family before embarking on the project. "Next month I'm planning a trip to U.K. I'm going to meet her mother and I'm just doing all my research work and preparation for that subject. I would like to show Scarlette in a very good image and in a good light, not anything bad because she was a victim of circumstances. My all sympathies are with Scarlette," said Prabhakar.
The movie is slated to go on floors in July and Bollywood actress Katrina Kaif is touted to be playing the role of Scarlette in the film.
