When one talks about Shyam Benegal and UTV Spot Boy's Mahadev Ka Sajjanpuri, his first out and out comedy film as a director, its needless to say that one is bound to be very curious to know what the film is going to be about. The virgin pair of Shreyas Talpade and Amrita Rao, along with the veteran director, shot for a romantic dream sequence song at a suburban studio.
The contrast of Shyam Benegal with choreographer Howard Rosemeyer was enough to bring a smile on everyone's faces. Shreyas plays the central character, Mahadev, who fantasizes about the petite Amrita Rao. Set in a village backdrop and looking beautiful rustic houses and authentic feel to the place. Amrita looked as gorgeous as ever in a gorgeous red dress, Shreyas was looking extremely huggable in his shining suit for the dream song.
The camaraderie between everyone in the unit was amazing; shooting was happening without any tension or glitches, and everyone was seen cracking jokes with each other.
UTV Spot Boy's Mahadev Ka Sajjanpur is about a guy who is one of the few educated young men from Sajjanpur, and who makes his living by writing letters. His ability to write persuasive letters makes him extremely popular with largely the illiterate population of his town. With this as the narrative frame, Mahadev Ka Sajjanpur shows in an entertaining, musical, and comedic way, the characters and events that are hilarious and poignant. Overall, this film is a delightful satirical take on a contemporary Indian village.
