Dev D turns a big success

There may be detractors of Dev D who may still want to pull down Dev D in spite of audience's appreciation but numbers can't lie. The collections of this Anurag Kashyap directed film are out and it is loud and clear that the film is a success.

Made on a modest budget of a mere 6 crores, the film has already earned over 8 crores in its very first week and is still counting. In fact in it's second week, number of multiplexes have not just retained the same number of shows as in the first week but even increased it at select centres.

The film has started well in the second weekend as well with youth continuing to patronize the film. Moreover, since Billu hasn't taken the nation by a storm, it has enabled Dev D to enjoy good chunk of audience for itself in days to come.

Such continued show at theatres means that Abhay Deol has now got his biggest success till date. Though his Honeymoon Travels Pvt. Ltd. too was a good earner and had crossed the 10 crore mark at the box office, a) Dev D will certainly surpass its collections and b) Abhay Deol had to share credits with 5 other leading men in the film.

For Anurag Kashyap too, it is a shot in the arm as the success of Dev D means that he can breathe a little more easily en route to the release of his next film Gulaal. Meanwhile, he can continue to make films his own way without bowing down to the old fashioned movie making technique, style and narrative.
