Sanjay Gupta was on the brink of cracking a deal with author Vikas Swarup to make a film on Q and A. But the rights of the book were already sold to Boyle. ''I missed by a hair's breadth,'' said Gupta.

Gupta added, ''I had read the book in 2005 and wanted to make a film on it. I wanted Homi Adjania, the maker of Being Cyrus to direct it. We had met Vikas Swarup. But unfortunately the rights of the film were already sold to Danny Boyle.''

Sanjay however said that had he to make the film it would not have got the kind of international recognition it got because of Danny Boyle.

''Also we do not have the kind of support Fox Searchlight gave to Danny Boyle. Who would have given me Rs.75 crores to make a Slumdog Millionaire here,'' said Gupta.
