Congress slams Amitabh Bachchan

The Congress party has slammed Bollywood superstar for his decision to be become the Brand Ambassador for the BJP ruled Gujarat. The party accused him of misusing his celebrity status for minting money. It said that Big B had earlier become the brand ambassador of Uttar Pradesh due to his closeness with the Samajwadi Party which was in power then and he had brought electoral disaster to Mulayam Singh's government.

It may be recalled that Amitabh has been on a spree visiting BJP ruled states and screening his movie Paa. First he had organised a special screening for the Gujarat, Chief Minister Narendra Modi and later for Karnataka chief minister BS Yeddyurappa. Both Karnakata and Gujarat had given tax exemption for his movie Paa. Amitabh Bachchan has however denied any political motive behind his move and said he was impressed with Gujarat's development.

Big B had short lived political career with the Congress party when he was elected to the Lok Sabha from Allahabad in 1984 due to his closeness with Rajiv Gandhi. He however resigned after three years when his and his brother Ajitabh Bachchan's name came out in the Bofors scandal that had socked the nation. Surely Big B is not willing to burn his fingers again. Amitabh and Rajiv had a fall out with their relationship over the Bofors scandal.
