The first two characters are of a gifted painter Arun (Aamir Khan), who meets an investment banker named Shai (Monica Dogra) at the opening of his new show on her vacation in Mumbai. They spend a night together and Shai cannot forget about it but Arun fails to explain it. They move on in separate ways next morning thinking they will never meet in life again.

A cab driver meets a shy girl called Yasmin (Kriti Malhotra), who takes a ride on his taxi. An amateur photographer is trying to capture the pouring rain in Mumbai and Yasmin is behind the camera. Soon, the taxi driver starts a chat with the shy girl and discovers that they belong to neighbouring towns in Uttar Pradesh. This short chat creates belongingness.

Munna (Prateik Babbar) is a young washerman (dhobi) with dream of becoming a film actor. He delivers washed clothes to the house of Shai. When Munna discovers Shai"s inclination towards photography, he insists her to shoot his portfolio and he will show her the real city in exchange. They develop an unusual friendship in this process and Munna falls in love with her.

Arun also settled in a new apartment to enjoy his reclusive life but he stumbles upon a secret. We hope Kiran Rao offers something really interesting through her directorial debut venture. Read the reviews of the film Dhobi Ghat.
