After
rocking
the
box
office
last
year
with
Golmaal
3,
Ajay
Devgn
and
director
Rohit
Shetty
are
back
with
Singham,
a
remake
of
the
Tamil
super-hit
starring
Suriya.
While
the
hunt
for
the
female
lead
was
on
for
quite
a
while,
the
makers
have
now
finalised
Kajal
Aggarwal
to
play
Ajay's
love
interest
in
the
film.
For
the
uninitiated,
Kajal
is
a
popular
actress
down
South
with
a
repertoire
of
numerous
successful
films
in
Tamil,
Telugu
and
Kannada.
She
rose
to
prominence
after
her
performance
as
'Yuvarani
Mitravinda
Devi'
and
'Indira
(Indu)'
in
the
2009
Telugu
super-hit
Magadheera
which
also
won
her
a
Filmfare
nomination
for
Best
Actress
(Telugu).
Talking
about
casting
Kajal
in
his
film,
director
Rohit
Shetty
says,
"Kajal
is
very
popular
down
south.
She
has
done
Magadheera,
one
of
the
biggest
Telugu
hits
of
all
time.
We
are
confident
about
her
pulling
off
the
role
successfully."
Talking
about
similarities
between
the
original
and
Rohit's
remake,
Rohit
adds,
"75
percent
of
the
film
will
be
different,
while
the
original
basic
premise
will
stay
the
same.
We
have
to
make
the
film
accessible
to
every
market
in
the
country.
So
the
story
will
differ
from
the
original.
I
have
introduced
new
characters
and
subplots
to
cater
to
the
general
audience."
Singham
produced
by
Reliance
Pictures
is
all
set
to
hit
theatres
this
July.
