Shahrukh Khan becomes franchise owner for Mumbai i1 Super Series

Shahrukh Khan has partnered with KKR partners, the Mehta Group to buy Mumbai i1 Super Series, an all new motorsport racing league.

Shahrukh has become Mumbai franchise owners for the i1 Super Series. The i1 Super Series is being initiated by Machdar Motorsports. In the i1 Super Series, scheduled to kickstart in January 2012, nine teams representing nine different cities from various parts of the city will be competing against each other. Each team will have both an Indian and an International driver.

Shahrukh Khan's entry in the i1 Super Series is a boost for the the championship. Speaking about his involvement, SRK said, “I have always tried to develop sports in the country in any way possible and we have recently taken a very professional approach to expanding our interests in various sports entertainment categories. The concept is similar to the IPL and I am confident that in the years to come this can become one of the biggest motorsport events in the world."
